Partners Provide Educational Opportunities for Iraqi Children
The United Nations reports that more than 220,000 school-aged Iraqi children have been displaced from their homes since early 2006. Many have either stopped going to school or have missed many weeks. Displacement frequently interrupts a child's education and has long-term implications for all sectors of society. Several of our partners are working with internally displaced Iraqi children and Iraqi refugee children in neighboring countries to provide a quality education amidst conflict.

International Rescue Committee
The IRC’s Middle East program aims to improve the quality of life for vulnerable Iraqis and host populations through direct humanitarian assistance, expanded social services, increased civil society capacity, and community mobilization. To date, the IRC has reached approximately 60,000 vulnerable individuals. IRC is committed to ensuring uprooted Iraqi children living inside Iraq and in Jordan and Syria access the quality education they deserve.
Save the Children Alliance
Save the Children is supporting thousands of Iraqi refugee children, primarily those who have fled to neighboring Jordan. Their strategies focus on enrolling refugee children in school, ensurung that children progress to the next level of schooling, and providing quality non-formal educational opportunities for those children unable to access the formal education system.

As part of a commitment by Microsoft, Nike, UNHCR and WPP, ninemillion.org is an online portal that allows average people to contribute directly to education for children of conflict around the globe, focusing on “Education Plus” -- activities which include life-skills training, trauma and sport programs, and access to technology.
Norwegian Refugee Council
The Norwegian Refugee Council has opened an Education Resource Centre in Beirut that assists more than 250 Iraqi refugee families. The NRC has committed to expand its educational services for Iraqi refugee children in Lebanon.

New Project in Development: These parters have joined together to develop an innovative distance learning program to provide supplementary education for displaced refugees in Middle Eastern countries. Using interactive methods such as radio, TV, laptops, and cell phones, the partners will enable refugee children to participate in appropriate education lessons drawn from their national curriculum.
